Flash fiction Competition: Call for entries

A prize of £100 will be awarded to the most downloaded story by the closing date, £50 each to the second and third runners-up. Copyright remains with authors: work will not be copied or redistributed or sold to third parties.

Entry requirements

1. The story must be grammatically correct with full use of paragraphs, commas, and full stops. Please use Times New Roman, font size 14, 1.5 spacing, justified on both sides.

Do not include personal details in the submission, apart from your name or pen name.

2. There must be a covering picture or photo which illustrates a central theme. It may even be an abstract design. (Please do not include a photo of the author). The picture can be uploaded via an author’s dashboard.

3. The word limit is 2000 words and should not be less than 1500.

4. The author with the most downloads will receive £100. The second and third runners-up will receive £50 each. There must be a minimum of 20 downloads before prizes will be awarded: it wouldn’t make sense for a story to win with perhaps 3 downloads, with the runners-up receiving two downloads each. If by the closing date this threshold has not been reached, the competition will be extended until it has.

5. In the interests of transparency, winners and their stories agree to be listed on the front page of the Yours2Read platform after the competition has closed.

6. In submitting a story you give legal assurance that it is your own work (you own the copyright) and has not been copied from another source.

7. A maximum of 3 entries per author per competition.

We are interested in finding authors with whom we can work in the future, solely in the short story genre, and will be running rolling short story

and flash fiction competitions throughout the year ahead.

Take a look at these short video clips on YouTube which explain the basics of successful flash fiction writing:
